FERNANDINA BEACH - A film four years in the making by Fernandina Beach High
School students will be shown at the inaugural Amelia Island Film Festival.
Amelia Island: Isle of Eight Flags is a documentary on the island's history.
Former Fernandina Beach High advanced TV production teacher Rob Hicks, who
produced the 60-minute film, said the majority of the film's $11,000 price tag
was spent on equipment the school will keep.
Hicks said trying to make a professional film with students was the biggest
challenge.
"We wanted to make a professional documentary, and I think we did that," he
said. "But it was difficult to make ourselves go that extra step working only
one hour a day."
The film, produced in association with the Amelia Island Museum of History, was
completed this summer. Hicks said the students involved have graduated, but he
expects several of them to be at the festival.
